Parking at es Botafoc will be free for only two hours

The Port Authority of the Balearic Islands (APB) will limit parking at the new maritime station of Botafoc to two hours, so users who have to travel without their vehicles will not be able to leave them parked in the parking facilities. According to sources of the port authority, this measure will be maintained while a controlled parking system is being processed with barriers and license plate readers, such as those that exist in other public infrastructures. At the moment the current hourly regulation is the best option for the control of the parking , they have assured.

As to whether the new system will provide for a time limit for parking or that it is paid, these same ABS sources have stressed that it is still too early to say because «the processing of the file has not yet begun».

The maritime station of es Botafoc from the port of Ibiza entered service on Tuesday, June 6. The first passengers who made use of the new facilities were those of the ferry Eleanor Rosselvet de Baleària, which arrived at seven and a quarter of the afternoon from the port of Denia and bound for Barcelona.

The APB awarded the construction works of the new maritime station in April 2019 to the UTE Comsa-MAB, for a budget of 16.330.960,06 euros. The new building, which seeks the tradition of Ibizan architecture using straight lines, white color and reddish sandstone, has all the services to meet the needs of passengers, having as a priority the fulfillment of the measures of security and accessibility. It offers users large lounge and traffic areas for separate boarding and disembarkation operations. Moreover, the sea station of es Botafoc has all the amenities to ensure the comfort that is sought for passengers. It also allows simultaneous service to up to six ships.

The new marine station is located between the north and south docks of es Botafoc and is separated about 30 meters from the sea. It has about 6,580 meters of built area between the two floors and the mezzanine. The ground floor houses pre-shipment services and security controls, while the mezzanine has offices. The upper floor is designed as a walkable roof that serves to access the boarding and disembarkation walkways.
